Chikunto Safari Lodge
Flanked by rolling plains, plateaus, river banks and miombo vegetation Chikunto Safari Lodge is located in an area of distinctive natural beauty within the South Luangwa National Park.
Since opening in April 2018 the property has become renowned for its prolific wildlife and spectacular game viewing. With its wide cross-section of habitats, South Luangwa National Park explodes with wildlife. Leopards and lions are sighted in fantastic settings as they patrol their territories. Spotted hyenas call into the night, competing with the lions for the title of “best safari audio”.
Hippos jostle in the river in front of the camp, and elephants and buffalo are always on the move for water. Chikunto's activities consist of expert-guided walking safaris and game drives. Night drives offer a rare insight into the unique behaviour of the resident nocturnal species. The spectacular sights of South Luangwa make walking safaris here are a must. There's also an option to mix it up by driving out to a remote point before disembarking the vehicle and continuing your safari by foot. From February to April Chikunto makes use of the high water levels to enjoy boating excursions during the green season when birdlife is at its best.
Chikunto Safari Lodge has four luxury tents and one family tent each built on raised decking. Each tent includes a comfortable seating area with an open plan en-suite bathroom, private shower, twin basins and flushing toilet. Adjoining each tent is also a rustic veranda. The main area makes the most of the lodge's prime location. One deck features the saltwater swimming pool, which overlooks the breath-taking wilderness. The other deck features a relaxing outdoor seating area. The canvas roofed section hosts is a cosy dining room and bar. The nearby fire pit is an inviting meeting place before pre-safari and after dinner time.
