Royal Zambezi Lodge
Set against the breath-taking mountain backdrop of the Zambezi Valley Escarpment, the Royal Zambezi Lodge, located within the Chiawa Game Management Area, has three & a half kilometres of unspoiled river frontage on the northern bank of the Zambezi River.
With lions roaring in the distance and hippos snorting in the river, the luxurious thatched suites, elegant design, and gourmet cuisine of Royal Zambezi Lodge is the perfect luxury home base from which to explore this wild and beautiful area. ----- Some say that the best way to see the bush is to walk in it. This intimate form of mixing with nature permits a close study of the various plants, animals, nests, tracks, and other ground-level features. All the sounds and scents are there, unsullied and there’s time to study everything properly without having to move. A Royal canoe trip is something that shouldn’t be missed.
The canoeing experience involves peace and tranquillity punctuated by animal magic in all its forms. Lions have been seen stalking and killing an impala. Leopards have been spotted on a branch watching the world go by. Elephants cross the water to and from the island where the vegetation provides plentiful browsing. Cape buffalo graze on the floodplains on both banks. Fishing on the Lower Zambezi offers one of the most exceptional freshwater angling experiences in the world, the highlight being the presence of the world’s premier game fish, the Tiger. There's also plenty of bream and chessa to catch or use as bait, and many varieties of catfish. -----There are no fences around the lodge, and their regular guests include elephant, hippo, buffalo, lion, leopard and a myriad of bird species
The ongoing distractions from the river create unique photo opportunities in camp and all to a background chorus of birds, monkeys and baboons around the camp. The Lodge area is a bird watcher’s delight because of the variety of habitats and cover available, especially the large shade trees which shelter the complex. The Royal Zambezi Lodges has 15 tented rooms and suites that include a family unit and three Presidential Suites. All stand-alone and spacious, the large green canvas tents under thatch roofs are positioned for maximum views and complete privacy. Each suite is impeccably furnished with a contemporary style, comfort and muted bush colours. With the size and en-suite facilities being the differentiating factors, all tents and suites include Wi-Fi, king size beds, comfortable sofas, airy verandahs, and a private plunge pool.
