Sungani Lodge
Sungani is the adventure-based luxury destination in the South Luangwa National Park, Zambia. Sungani Lodge and Kulandila Camp are two family-owned and operated lifestyle safari lodges. Sungani is the most southerly lodge in the park, close to the Luangwa River and fronted by an enormous lagoon. Further upstream is Kulandila Camp, nestled between the Luangwa River and a beautiful lagoon.
A passion for Africa and each family member’s unique set of skills have wrought Sungani Lodge and Kulandila Camp. It is a joy to tell you that the majority of what you will find at both properties has been created and hand built by the family and local people, transforming this remote area of the park from a state of neglect into something quite extraordinary. The inclusive transfer to the properties is a short 20-minute flight from Mfuwe in the Sungani aircraft. The properties are 6km’s apart by road and approx. 70 km’s from Mfuwe town.
Sungani Lodge is sheltered by magnificent indigenous trees allowing the lodge to blend seamlessly into the landscape. Carefully curated interiors showcase a love of raw materials, classic lines and longevity. The entire lodge is built on elevated decking. The relaxed ambiance is complimented by al fresco dining, cosy bar area and lounging areas that melt into the incredible view. There is a separate WC, gift shop and WiFi throughout. Sungani Lodge is wheelchair friendly with one caveat being that doorways are 80cm wide. Limited to seven luxury custom designed airconditioned guest tents set atop polished concrete floors offering approximately 1150 square feet indoors with an adjoining deck, private plunge pool and outdoor shower. There is a family unit to accommodate 2 adults and 2 children, and a slightly more luxurious Director’s unit complete with dedicated WiFi, DSTV, Nespresso machine and outdoor sleeping.
Sungani Lodge provides discovery, adventure, relaxation and insight as you are placed in the hands of their qualified guides for every activity. Each day ends with a toast to an unforgettable African Sunset. Free yourself and feel your curiosity and senses stir. Activities include game drives, bush meals, day trips (on request), water excursions, photographic hides, walking safaris, and more. Game viewing includes but not limited to: lion, leopard, elephant, giraffe, zebra, hippo, crocodile, plains game, land, and water birds. The area is well known for the elusive Roan Antelope, Thornicroft Giraffe and Lichtenstein’s Hartebeest.
