“Zambia is a must, a hidden gem in Africa. It's full of adventure and new experiences and I can honestly say that from the rainy season to the hot season, its beautiful all year long. Whether you decide to stay in the city or head out to the bush, there are so many new things to explore and discover.”

Dana Patel is a photographer living in Zambia. She uses a Nikon D750, normally shooting with 85mm and 70-200mm lenses.

What inspires you the most when photographing Zambia?

Its natural beauty and the people -- their kindness and their resilience.

Most of my photos are recognizable streets within Lusaka and they offer beautiful scenery in our every-day lives. The trees, the colors, the people going about their day are inspirational. You can find such beauty everywhere you go, without having to go very far.

More than often when I head out to shoot, I don’t know where I am going to go, what to expect, or what to shoot but Zambia never disappoints. Each time, even on days when I don’t photograph anything, I go home feeling inspired by the people and the nature that surrounds them.

How do you describe Zambia to friends and family who haven’t visited yet?

Coming from California, I’m often asked, “so what’s it like?”. Zambia is a bit of everything. It has wildlife, culture, nightlife and adventure. You can spend your morning out in the bush catching the sunrise and an evening out with some friends under the stars. Throughout the country, there are beautiful lodges that offer quiet escapes into untouched wildlife and beauty.

With so many people from around the world living in Zambia, it offers a mix of culture and cuisine for everyone. You’ll find an eclectic mix of food, arts, and crafts at markets and events that show off local talent.

What would you say about Discover Zambia?

Discover Zambia shows how beautiful and natural Zambia is from the perspective of people living there and visiting. It compiles images and experiences from people who genuinely share what they love about Zambia. Discover Zambia also showcases things to do and places to visit for locals and visitors. I’ve noticed that a lot of followers who used to live in Zambia really enjoy seeing what Zambia is like now and Discover Zambia does a wonderful job of sharing it with the world.

Not only does Discover Zambia share the sights and experiences of our beautiful country, but it also showcases the work of local businesses and visual artists. Discover Zambia has created a platform for people to share what they love about Zambia most. Based on Discover Zambia’s existing success, it is apparent that there is no shortage of things that people love about Zambia.

Discover Zambia is a pioneer in its initiative to share Zambia with the world. I’ve been an avid follower of Discover Zambia and I cannot wait to see what else they have in store for us in the future.
